Overview
Situation: Jacuzzi/BathWraps wanted to improve its in-home sales experience. With this in mind, we updated the brand-look and added a 3D visualization capability to the app. The previous version of the app supports a 2.5D visualization that did not allow the user to zoom and rotate the scene. The in-home salespersons could use the visualization to configure, present, and sell bathroom home improvement projects to homeowners.
The app is used by the Jacuzzi dealer salespersons. The salesperson sits down with the potential customer to view a presentation and videos on the benefits of Jacuzzi products. The salesperson and customer configure the bathroom. The app then calculates the price of the configuration for the final sale. If needed, customers can also click here to Find a reliable plumber in Vancouver.
As the product owner, I developed the app’s 3D strategy, specifications, and project management for the app programmers and 3D modelers.
Technologies:
- App: The iPad app uses 3D SceneKit libraries coded in Swift.
- App Portals: The app communicates with a portal server to update pricing in the app and send sold projects to the dealer and Jacuzzi.
- App Deployed: Enterprise site, multiple targets for various dealers
Tools: Xcode, 3D modeling: Blender, 3ds Max
How the app is used in the Sales Process
App Features
The main addition was support for a 3D visualizer of bathtubs and showers with a myriad of accessories, including:
- Various wall patterns, colors and textures
- Multiple color facets, grab bars, shower handles, shelves and seats
- Shower doors and curtains
The app was also updated to support new pricing/product models to support a new mix of products.
The app operates without an Internet connection because it is not always available in the home. It does this by caching custom product data from the portal website when online.
3D Bath Visualizer
The old 2.5D visualizer did not allow customers to zoom in and rotate the view of their new bath area. Using Apple Scenekit, a fully 3D visualizer was incorporated in the app.
Wall Configuration screen with 3D Preview
Salesperson usually operates the tablet to configure a shower or bathtub.
Interactive 3D Rotate and Scale of Scene
Then they can rotate and zoom into various areas to inspect the look of the configuration up close.
Two wall systems are supported in the app – a paneled wall system (see above) and a molded wall system shown below.
Bath tub with textured walls and grab bars – with and without shower door
The system supports about a thousand parts and uses over seventy 3D models.
